October Guide: Major Events & Fall Things To Do in Greater Victoria

All you need to know for awesome family happenings this October! From the Circus to spooky events, here are the best things to do this month.

Fall is in full swing! Something about the crisp air and the orange and red leaves makes me feel so cozy. There is lots to do in our city this month as well!

Here we highlight the major annual events, but you can also visit our full calendar of events for a snapshot of everything that's happening around Victoria, Saanich, Sidney, Westshore, and beyond.

Here's some of our favourite events and happenings in October:

1. American Crown Circus and Circo Osorio

Come and see the international circus under the big top in Esquimalt! You'll be in awe of the amazing acrobats, high flying flyers, perch pole performers, and the zany clowns!

When: October 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7

2. Peninsula Country Market

A vibrant community market that has more than 50 vendors weekly offering farm fresh products, jams and jellies, honey, homemade bread, cut flowers, assorted fresh meats, organic produce and a fine selection of arts and crafts.

3. James Bay Community Market

Open rain or shine every Saturday, May 4th to September 28th from 9am to 3pm on the corner of Menzies and Superior in James Bay and take advantage of lots of available parking (free on Superior).

4. Moss Street Market 

Located in the heart of Fairfield Gonzales, the Moss Street Community Market is a perfect place for local and organic produce and foods, handmade crafts, artisan clothing, inspiring services and community education to folks from the entire Victoria & Area region!

5. Halloween Cuisine

Tap into your inner chef, and join in for exciting sessions of hands-on culinary creation! Each session will introduce your child to basic cooking skills and nutrition tips while learning exciting dishes that can easily be recreated at home. All ingredients and supplies will be provided. Don't forget a container to take home any leftovers!

6. Ghost Hunting

Bring your friends and get ready to experience the thrill of authentic paranormal investigation. This is no joke, folks.

7. Night at the Museum: Maya Family Sleepover

Inspired by the Maya exhibition, we’ll travel to the heart of the Meso-American rainforest–the birthplace of Maya culture. Set up camp in the galleries, investigate archaeological mysteries, take part in hands-on actives, watch a late-night movie and more!

8. Babies and Dogs Workshop

The Babies & Dogs workshop is designed to help dog owners and parents (or parent-to-be's) set their dogs and their children up for success. In two hours you will learn what you need to be working on proactively to set everyone up for success as well as what you need to know and do, once your baby is at home so that everyone can live in harmony.

9. Ballet Victoria's "Ballet Rocks"

We built this ballet on rock and roll! Featuring the music of Roy Orbison, Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and Syrinx. Choreographed by four Royal Winnipeg Ballet Alumni: Gerard Théoret, Paul Destrooper, Philippe-Alexandre Jacques and the late Norbert Vesak. Join BV as they embody the words of Jim Morrison, “Let’s just say I was testing the bounds of reality.”

11. Halloween in the Pool

Come and join in for some tricks and some treats. They will have themed crafts and games with yummy prizes, plus the Wibit and slide will be open!

12. Spooky Sunday Skate

Calling all ghosts, goblins and other Halloween favourites! Take your costume for a spin on the ice at the Spooky Halloween skate! They'll have ghoulish staff, ghostly music and don’t forget to bring your trick or treat bag!

13. Once Upon a Pumpkin Halloween Party at Kindergym

Kindergym is celebrating Halloween with decorations, costumes and more! Get ready for a spooktacular good time. Regular program drop-in rates apply. A limited number of admissions may be reserved online.

14. Halloween Bonfire

Halloween just isn't Halloween in Esquimalt without a bonfire!! Hosted by the Esquimalt Lions, this event is a great way to wind down the festivities for all ages. Enjoy the warmth from the flames of a huge bonfire while enjoying a nice warm cup of hot chocolate - reusable cups strongly encouraged. All food and drink sales are by donation with the proceeds feeding directly back into community programs.
