It's the end of the week and you don't feel like cooking and pleasing the tastebuds of all the picky eaters in the family. What are you going to do? Have no fear - we've got your back. We've listed 15 of our favorite kid-friendly restaurants in Portland. These spots have great food for adults and lots of kid's options. Some even have dedicated play areas!
If you're craving your mother's cooking then you have to try Mother's Bistro & Bar. Owner and Chef Lisa Schroeder has put together a menu of delicious slow-cooked meals that are better (that's right - better) than what your mom used to make you. Think amazing meatloaf, scrumptious stews, savoury braised pot roast, and juicy roast chicken. They're open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and they have a stellar kid's menu. Oh, and did I mention that they have children's play area with toys and books? Yah, that's right. Mother's is the place to bring kids.

There's two things that you need to know about The Mississippi: they have great pizza and great family-friendly entertainment. Their entertainment line up has lots of weekly kids shows. Why not bring the kids to sing and dance along as Mr. Ben plays his guitar and ukelele, or come and catch the Alphabeticians rock the house with their upbeat songs?

Do you and your kids love breakfast? (Is that even a question? This is Portland after all.) Then Jam on Hawthorne is the place to take the family. The chefs at Jam serve up an extraordinary selection of traditional breakfast items from 7:30am to 3:00pm every day. They have a well-priced kid's menu and a kids' play area for the little ones to enjoy while their food is on the way.

Telling you to go out for a family dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory may seem like a bit of a cop-out, but I can't help myself. The Old Spaghetti Factory was always my favourite restaurant to go to as child. And what's not to love? They've got delicious spaghetti, other great, classic Italian dishes, a stellar kid's menu. Kid's will eat happily as they search for the picture of Wally the Trolley at the bottom of their bowl.

5. Verde Cocina
This Mexican restaurant is all about family. Their kitchen is entirely gluten free and they have lots of vegan and paleo options. They serve delicious Mexican inspired meals with a Northwest twist. Their kids menu has affordable and plainer options for the little ones.
Where: Three locations - Hillsdale, Pearl District, & Sylvan Highlands
This casual pizza joint in Montavilla serves up some of the best home style pizza. If you have a vegan in the family no need to worry, all their pizza dough is vegan. Come here on Sundays to try their famous lasagna - it's the talk of the town.

If you're feeling like some amazing chicken wings and a fun atmosphere then make a visit to Fire on the Mountain. They have three locations in Portland - Fremont, Burnside, and Interstate - and have been serving Portland's best wings since 2005. But they serve way more than just wings. You'll definitely find something on the menu that the kids will happily chomp on.

8. Tin Shed
Located in the Alberta Arts Neighborhood, this little joint is serious about flavour and making dishes with fresh and local ingredients. You might recognize this place from Diner Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri or Good Food America with Nathan Lyon. Wednesday is Family Night at the Tin Shed. After 4pm, you get one free kid item when you order a regularly priced item - sweet! And if you have a furry friend, bring them in after 4pm on Thursday nights because dogs eat for free.

9. Boke Bowl
Craving ramen? Then Boke Bowl is your next destination. This casual ramen shop started as a pop-up stand and now has two locations in Portland. Think asian-inspired meals meets Portland-style flavour. Kids will happily munch on some chicken, pork, or mushroom steam buns while you happily savour that ramen you've been craving.

The chefs at Von Ebert's serve what they call "Elevated American Pub food" and brew 100 different styles of beer per year. Their kid's menu features all the kiddie favourites for under $7- pizza, chicken tenders, grilled cheese, quesadillas, and kid-size burgers. Make sure you ask your server for an etch-a-sketch!

For the freshest seafood, a new menu every day, and fabulous service head over to Southpark Seafood. Their seafood dishes are honestly out of this world. It's more upscale then the other restaurants listed, but it's still a great place to bring the kids. Everything on their kid's menu is $7 or under.

12. Laughing Planet
Laughing Planet is the quirkiest restaurant in town. They have dishes for all the omnivores, vegans, and flexitarians out there. They are devoted to serving fresh and health food sourced from local famers and ranchers. Take the family there to get some tasty burritos, tacos, quesadillas or bowls. Kids will love playing with the random assortment of toy dinosaurs placed around their three locations.

13. Marco's Cafe
If you haven't been to Marco's before, you might have heard that they are the restaurant with umbrellas covering the ceiling - it's true! From breakfast to dinner, Marco's Cafe serves up some very yummy dishes in Multnomah Village. Come for the umbrellas or come for the food. No matter what, you won't be disappointed.

This German brewery was designed with families in mind. They have an entire section filled with toys, books, and chalkboard walls so kids can have just as much fun (or even more fun) than the adults. The menu is loaded with classic, German pub fare. We're talking schnitzel and fries, fish n' chips, burgers, and so on. Come here to meet friends and make new ones.

You'll be treated like family at Jake's! Everyone who walks through the door is treated with respect. They have an extensive menu of fresh seafood, steak, salad, and sandwich options. If you're feeling fancy, go for the Oregon Dungeness crab. For the VIPs 12 and under, there's a great selection of kid's meals under $8.
