May Guide: The Best Things to Do This Month in Calgary!

There is a ton of super fun activities to do here in Calgary during the month of May! From outdoor festivals, to markets, and a couple of awesome amusement parks, there is something everyone in your family will enjoy.

We have put together a list of all our favourite things to do this month so you can focus on the fun part and just show up!

1. Flying Squirrel

  1. Toddler Time - Bring the little ones for their own jump time! Beat the crowds and have some fun with your kids at the same time at Flying Squirrel trampoline park! Mon-Fri 10am -1pm, Sat and Sun 10am-11am.
  2. Neon Lights - Every Friday and Saturday night at 9PM-Midnight, Flying Squirrel is transformed. They turn off the lights, turn up the music and fire up the lasers, black-lights, strobes and more. Imagine a dance club on trampolines! Enjoy access to all the courts at the park–including glow in the dark trampoline dodgeball! 

2. Roots Homeschool - Adventures Among Orangutans (National Geographic Live)

Biological anthropologist Cheryl Knott and wildlife photojournalist Tim Laman have been using innovative techniques and new technologies to gain a closer look at one of the most iconic, yet least understood of the world’s primates, the Orangutan. Get a glimpse into the secret world of these intelligent, unique, and resourceful primates through the eyes of two experts who have dedicated their life’s work to studying, protecting, and sharing their love of these amazing animals.

3. Stars on Ice

All over the world, Stars on Ice continues to prove itself as the world's premier ice show by offering the very best in championship skating, and they are coming to Calgary! Each season, Stars on Ice strives to bring a unique skating, musical, and visual expertise to each and every audience, and for this reason, it remains North America's premier figure skating show.

4. Sport Check Mother's Day Run, Walk & Ride

Save the Date for Sport Check Mother's Day Run, Walk & Ride! Calgary’s LARGEST family fundraising event welcomes everyone to participate as a runner, walker, wheelchair, handcyclist, volunteer, sponsor or spectator!

5. Downtown Summer Market

The 2nd annual summer market continues once a month in Gulf Canada Square. The Annual Kick off to Summer Market at 401-9 Ave SW Gulf Canada Square from 10-2pm on the main floor will have local produce, art, fashion and health & wellness goods. It is perfect for all your Market needs!

6. Otafest 2019

Calgary’s longest running, all-ages pop culture festival features anime screenings, exhibitor hall, musical concerts, community panels, cosplay contests, voice actors, and so much more!

7. Calaway Park Opening Weekend

Come to Calaway Park for opening weekend! Take in all the great shows and try out all the awesome rides. There will be tons of games and lots to see. A great summer kick off for the whole family.

8. Heritage Park Opening Weekend

Celebrate the long weekend by stepping back in time. Calgary's Heritage Park Historical Village's 55th summer season begins on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Enjoy a different experience every day. Take a tour back in time on a horse-drawn wagon ride, play traditional Aboriginal games in the First Nations’ Encampment and pick up a freshly baked cheese bun from the Alberta Bakery.

9. East Town Get Down

A brand new music festival taking place on International Avenue, a six-block length of 17th Ave SE, and featuring intimate, convivial venues, unique food and drink, and a range of Calgary performers to suit all musical tastes, East Town Get Down is going to shake up the festival landscape in Calgary, kicking off the summer season with an international flare.
