March Guide: Events and Activities in Calgary

There are lots of great events happening this March in Calgary. Get the whole family together for some spring fun by checking out our list of great things to do.

There is lots to to during the month of March in Calgary! Hints of spring are popping up all over - from tulips budding to the giant Easter display at Costco. Have a look through our list of all the best things to do with your family.


1. Spark Circus

Spark Circus is in town! Enjoy entertaining and mind-boggling acts, death-defying stunts and impossible feats. There are over 20 exhibits at Spark Circus and Science Under the Big Top is packed with interactive activities for the whole family to enjoy.

2. What's Up With Feathered Friends

Explore Alberta's wildlife and natural spaces on the first Friday of the month. Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10am and 3pm to take flight with the hundreds of bird species in Alberta. Join in a large group activity at 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm or 2:30pm. Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

3. Film Concert Series - Harry Potter

This concert features the fan favourite film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Experience the magic in high-definition, on a giant screen, while the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra performs John Williams’ unforgettable score. Relive each whimsical moment as the music brings life to a story that has enchanted the world.

4. Annual Children's Wonderland Ball

Come on down to the 4th Annual Children's Wonderland Ball for an amazing experience for your whole family.

This year the ball is at a new larger venue and is ramping up to be the best one yet.  The purchase of a ticket  includes but is not limited to a feast fit for a King or Queen, activities for the children, entertainment and dancing!

When: Mar 3 from 1pm - 5pm



5. Calgary Baby and Tot Show

A premier parenting event designed to put everything you need under one roof. Featuring local and national exhibitors showcasing the latest in apparel, services, products and toys to assist parents and caregivers every step of the way. Join industry experts in the seminar theater, with educational presentations discussing everything from pregnancy to preschool! Interactive play areas, arts and crafts and ongoing entertainment for the whole family!

This year they will have Chase from Paw Patrol in the Meet & Greet area and performances by Zoo Street, Chris Lovely and more!

When: Mar 9 - Mar 10 from 9:30am - 5pm


6. Come Do Re Mi with CGC 

Bring your daughter to the Calgary Girls Choir and participate in a fun and friendly rehearsal specially designed to give prospective singers an idea of what it would be like to sing with the CGC. A typical rehearsal involves exercises to improve vocal range and ability, music education (learning to read music, sight singing, harmony), exposure to a wide variety of music genres and languages, movement to maximize interest and learning, and lots of fun!

When: Tues, Mar 12 from 5:45pm - 7pm, Wed, Mar 13 from 5:30pm - 7pm



7. Earth Science for Society

Earth Science for Society is a fun, educational, and dynamic geoscience outreach event in which students, families, youth groups, and the public are given an opportunity to explore the wonders of Earth science. Interactive, hands-on exhibits are showcased in four themed pavilions. This event has free admission!

Where: Big Four Building 
When: Mar 17 from 11:30am - 5pm, Mar 18 from 8:45am - 2:30pm, Mar 18 from 6pm - 9pm, Mar 19 from 8:45am - 2:30pm


8. Discovery Nights: Reduced Admission

Come to Bow Habitat Station after 5:00 pm and take advantage of discounted admission to the Discovery Centre. Crawl through a beaver lodge, step on a bog and meet over 20 different freshwater fish species in their aquariums!

Admission after 5:00 PM: $5 +tax per person (children 3 & under, free).

When: Mar 21 from 5pm - 8pm, Apr 18 from 5pm - 8pm


9. Spring Rally in the Alley

Get out of the house this spring break and enjoy car-themed activities throughout Gasoline Alley Museum at Heritage Park!

Rally around the alley following a special map to complete a puzzle that will unlock your chance to win a grand prize! See if you can use what’s in the trunk to get your broken-down jalopy back on the road. Join the pit crew, check the oil, change the tire and get that car back on the racetrack before you lose that lead. Take on the challenge of our Over the Mountains and through the Woods obstacle course and see if you have what it takes to be a highway driver. Don't forget to dress for the road and snap a selfie in your choice of car-themed costumes!

10. Spring Camp

Check out this awesome Spring Drama Camp! It capitalizes on the imaginative talents of children aged 6–12. Theatrical skills will be developed through creative play and exploration. They will weave together every child's sparks of imagination, and make their way toward Friday's performance for friends and family in their rehearsal hall.

Where: cSPACE King Edward
When: March 25-29, 9am-4pm
Cost: $300 for the week


11. Ghost Tours at Heritage Park

Visit Heritage Park for a guided ghost tour through the streets of the Historical Village. Behind the Park’s old-fashioned charm lie stories of otherworldly encounters, spine-tingling history and some memorable manifestations! All tours depart from the lobby of Gasoline Alley Museum. New family-friendly tours are now available, providing a shorter, earlier and less scary version of the tour.

Note: Strollers are welcome, but please we aware there is some rough terrain and gravel roads.

12. Rock-A-Palooza Gem & Mineral Show 2019

March 28th-31st, 2019 will feature a hands on, all ages event dedicated to rocks, minerals, fossils, gemstones, beads and more! This Gem & Mineral show is one of the best in Canada and you are sure to find some amazing treasures and have fun exploring and learning with your family.
