August Guide: Major Events & Festivals in Winnipeg

The month of August makes parenting a lot easier! There's so many awesome kid-friendly events and festivals in Winnipeg (and lots of them FREE). Here's a list of the highlights!

Who doesn't enjoy throwing in some fun festivals into the mix? I know I do.

It keeps all of our kids entertained regardless of the varying ages, and my sanity! (Ha)

Now, the line up of the biggest August events you need to know about (all family friendly).

1. Metis Days in St. Laurent

St. Laurent is a proud Metis town with one of the largest metis populations in North America. Each year, Metis Days promotes this unique Metis culture. Highlights of the celebration include dancing, fiddling and jigging, a slow-pitch tournament, parade, monster bingo and karaoke.

2. Islendingadagurinn Icelandic Festival of Manitoba

Take a trip out to Gimli to this one-of-a-kind event celebrating Icelandic culture. Join in and enjoy food, music, entertainment, events, activities, Icelandic culture, and of course, Vikings!

3. Folklorama Festival

Experience this memorable multicultural festival by visiting the 44 volunteer-run pavilions that feature lively entertainment, cultural displays, warm hospitality and authentic ethnic cuisine. Pavilion show times vary throughout the weeks of the Festival!

4. Kleefeld Honey Festival

A full weekend of activities! The event starts on Friday Night with a Movie Night in the park. The canteen will be open at 7:00 pm will be serving all kinds of snacks. Saturday will begin as normal with free Pancake Breakfast followed by the Parade. You can let the kids play all day at our Play land Of Milk & Honey! At this play land you will find a carnival, a bouncy park for all ages, toys, crafts, and so much more. Saturday evening starts with a concert and ends the night with the best fireworks in the area!

5. Free Movies at Memorial Park

Watch your favourite 2000’s movies under the stars for free at Memorial Park every Tuesday in August! Movies start at sundown (approximately 9 pm). Don’t forget to come early to enjoy some pre-movie entertainment including, food trucks, games and more.

6. Manitoba Night Market & Festival

Your second chance of the summer to shop at the biggest night market in town! Bring the kids for pony rides, face painting, and more. There's also local musicians keeping the beat while you check out the beer garden or one of over TWENTY FIVE delicious food truck experiences. This summer you can support local, have fun, eat well, and enjoy a truly unique experience.

When: Sunday August 11th from 3pm - 11pm

7. Hanover Agricultural Fair

You and your family will have a great time checking out all of the activities they have to offer - crashing cars, bucking bulls, cuddly critters, rodeo ropers, a musical mainstage, family fun and so much more!

8. Rotary Ribfest

Mmm finger lickin good! There will also be a kids zone on the Saturday and Sunday with games, face painting, balloon creations, fire truck or police car visit, and more! Enjoy music by local bands, lots of food, ice cream, refreshments and farmery products!

9. Morden Corn & Apple Festival

Enjoy hot buttered corn on the cob, ice cold apple cider, bus tours, live entertainment on 2 stages, a huge parade, midway, and more! Kids will have a great time enjoying the activities and petting zoo designed especially for them. It’s family fun at its very best and well worth the drive!

10. Rosenort Summer Festival

Another one outside the city, but this two day festival is full of family friendly events, like a kids carnival, tennis tournament, fireworks, evening music and entertainment. A wonderful time and great way to end August.
