Everything you need to know for August 2018 in Metro Vancouver. From the Celebration of Light, to free outdoor movies, to cool & unique festivals, these are the things to do that the entire family will enjoy.

August is one of the best months of the year here in Vancouver.

The city truly comes alive in these summer months, bustling with free events, festivals, and heaps of kid-friendly activities. Here's the inside scoop of everything we have to look forward to.


1. Honda Celebration of Light & Music


This is not only Vancouver's biggest event, but it's also the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world and attracts up to 400,000 spectators along English Bay each evening. A celebration of fireworks, food, and music! The Park Stage at Second Beach offers the perfect spot to soak in free music, food, and family-friendly fun before the Fireworks light up Vancouver’s skyline. 

When - Wednesday Aug 1st & Saturday August 4th, fireworks at 10pm but entertainment starts at 2pm
Where - Second Beach, Stanley Park (or many viewing areas throughout downtown)

2. Harmony Arts Festival


Whether it’s world-class musical performances, inspiring visual art, mouth watering gastronomic events or simply the natural beauty of the setting that gets your heart beating a little faster, there is something for everyone at the Harmony Arts Festival. This festival is a celebration of music, performance, cinema and art that celebrates the best of the North Shore, regional and national performing, visual and culinary arts. Festival sites include John Lawson Park, Millennium Park, the Music Box, and the Ferry Building Gallery.

When - August 3rd-12th, festivities starting from 11am

3. Tsawwassen Sun Festival


A three-day celebration of fun in the sun, jam packed with special events, games, friendly competitions and many other attractions. As always, the pride of the Sun Festival is the annual Rotary Parade which heads down 56th Street from 16th Avenue to Winskill Park. There's also bbq's, children's midway, outdoor movies, and live music lined up throughout the festival.

When - August 4-6th, Sat 9am-6pm, Sun 9am- 10pm, Mon 8am-5:30pm

4. Vancouver Pride Parade


The most colourful event of the year! Vancouver Pride Parade draws tens of thousands each and every year to celebrate love. The parade will start on Robson at Burrard, turn down Denman to Beach Ave where it will finish at the merge with Pacific.

When - Sunday Aug 5th from 12pm - 3pm
Where - Downtown Vancouver

5. Sunset Beach Festival


After the parade, head to Sunset Beach and dance all day beside the water! There will be a main stage with great live performances, family fun zone, interactive art, food trucks, and beer garden.

6. Burnaby Blues & Roots Festival


This nine-hour event showcases an eclectic variety of world-class music on three stages in the City’s most picturesque venue of Deer Lake Park. The Blues & Roots Festivals strives to appeal to a wide spectrum of audiences and are committed to enriching the cultural and economic fabric of the region.

When - Saturday Aug 11th at 2pm

7. The Fair at the PNE


It’s not every day you can explore exhibits, enjoy live performances, be thrilled by rides, play games, learn about livestock, shop for treasures, and eat the yummiest food all in one place. Kids of all ages love BC’s legendary Fair at the PNE!

When - Everyday starting August 18th, till September 3rd (except Aug 20th & 27th)

8. Richmond World Festival


Richmond's major multicultural festival was expanded to 2 days this year. This festival celebrates Richmond’s significant cultural diversity and we’re inviting the world to the party! With headliners like Lights,
