I. Love. Victoria.
And Victoria in August is absolutely no exception! How could it be, with all the amazing community events, free entertainment, and high flying shows?
Here we highlight the major annual events, but you can also visit our full calendar of events for a snapshot of everything that's happening around Victoria, Saanich, Sidney, Westshore, and beyond.
Now, the line up of the biggest August events you need to know about (all family friendly).
Start the month with a bang (literally)! Symphony Splash is one of the most popular events in Victoria. Gather at the inner harbour by foot, kayak, or boat and watch the spectacular free concert by Victoria Symphony. As the sky darkens the music builds, and as it reaches its crescendo the cannons explode and the sky erupts into fireworks! To get a good spot you'll want to get there early, but not to fear, there is the Splash Family Zone in front of the Empress Hotel to keep the kiddos preoccupied from 1-4pm with a bouncy castle, games, face painting, crafts, and more.
When: Sunday August 4th with activities from 1pm-10pm
Where: Inner Harbour
Check out the exciting dragon boat races, right in Victoria’s downtown Inner Harbour! Teams race 470m from Laurel Point towards the Empress Hotel, in an intense display of strength and teamwork. You can also enjoy live bands at the FREE Outdoor Stage! This year's entertainment stage is bigger and better than ever, with popular local bands like The New Souls, Younger Than Yesterday, and The Soul Shakers. Enjoy the sunshine, drinks, and all in a family-friendly environment.
When: August 9th-11th, entertainment starting at 2pm daily

Escape the city lights and enjoy the stars from within the walls of Fort Rodd Hill. Join Parks Canada staff and local experts from the Royal Astronomical Society for a night of astronomy and galaxy exploration. Peak through large telescopes and witness this year’s Perseid Meteor Shower. Take part in special presentations, participate in hands-on activities and join a night photography tutorial.

You can also make it an overnight stay for extra fees!
Pilots from all over BC and the US will be entertaining you with their scale models, WW1 and WW2 aircrafts, aerobatics and even turbine jets! If you can tear your eyes away from the flying you can also enjoy huge static displays, kids activities, concession, and raffles. Bring your lawn chairs!
