Whether you're looking to escape the city crowds, or just want to stretch your legs, Austin has the best parks and playgrounds to take your family to.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." ~ Mr. Rogers.

With Mr. Rogers in mind we have compiled a list of the best parks and playgrounds in Austin. Find out where you could be enjoying the sunshine and fresh air today!

Mueller Lake Park

4550 Mueller Blvd, Austin

Opens daily from 5AM to 11PM

Mueller Lake Park is beautifully set in this urban area and is surrounded by lush foliage and all kinds of birds (especially waterfowl). The park is a great place to bring the kids and have a picnic in the grass. Location wise, Mueller Lake Park is also close to many eateries and different playgrounds. We think this is the perfect spot for all ages and is wheelchair accessible. The park even has a nice trail, which is excellent to walk, run, or exercise. Woof woof! Dogs are welcome too.

This park always proves to be a ton of fun for the entire family! There are fields for baseball, soccer, or to just run around! Thee is also a Sand volleyball court, tennis courts, 2 playgrounds, and a walking trail that goes around the whole park area.

Zilker Park

Opens daily from 5AM to 10PM

Zilker Metropolitan Park has a lot of recreational activities. Your kids will surely love the fact that they can canoe and kayak on the lake. The park also has lovely walking/running trails and of course there's a playground for kids. The park is wide open space - great for frisbee, soccer, picnicking, and anything in between. Also, don't forget to check out Barton Springs Pool and bring your swimwear.

Opens daily from 5AM to 10PM

This is a wonderful neighborhood park that we think your kids will love. The playground itself is awesome and having fields nearby is great to entertain larger groups and to play sports. Younger children will enjoy the 3 story playhouse and the "zip line" swing. If you bring bread you can also feed the ducks that are at the pond right by this park.

Robinson Park

Opens daily from 6AM to 10PM

This is a beautiful little park! It has the right amount of sun and shade for a perfect evening. The park has a cute children's play equipment like little dinosaurs, slides and play houses. There are also swings and a zip slide for the older kids. Robinson Park also has a covered pavilion with picnic tables that can be reserved for private parties.

Ramsey Park

Opens daily from 5AM–10PM

This park is great and has different playgrounds and sections for kids of all ages. There is also a covered basketball court, tennis courts, pool, and a big lawn to run around with the family! One of the unique things about this park is its very large slide - it is probably the tallest slide in Austin, so it's a lot of fun. The small public pool located in the park is only open in summer.  The pool doesn't have a slide or diving boards but it is good to cool off in or do some laps.

Pease Park

This is a beautiful park hidden right in the middle of Austin. The splash pad is perfect for little ones (& big) on a hot day. The park has playground, running trails, hiking trails, scenery, splash pad in summer, basketball court, field to throw frisbee or football.
