I’ll let you into a secret. I wasn’t prepared, but I sure am now!
If like me you are thinking of heading out to one of the many special Mother’s Day events in Victoria, you definitely have a large variety of activities to choose from. Here’s Chatterblock’s top picks.
There are a few events taking place on May 11th that could certainly go under the banner of Mother’s Day Events in Victoria, despite them being a day earlier.
Vic West Fest takes place on Saturday 11th at Banfield park and features a day of great activities for the young and old. From 11am until 3pm.
Quadra Village Day is also May 11th so can also go on the great Mother’s Day events in Victoria list! Again, expect fantastic food, crafts and activities for kids and local music. Starts at 9am and goes on until 1pm.
Let Me Call You Sweetheart : If your mum is a theatre lover, this new musical by Bruce Ruddell (Beyond Eden) with music by Bill Henderson, of the Canadian rock bands Chilliwack and UHF is a magical experience. Based around the story of a woman struggling with the passage of time, this show will be a trip down memory lane for many.
Let Me call You Sweetheart runs until May 19th at the Belfry Theatre.
Although only running until May 11th, Miss Saigon is one of the most celebrated shows of all time. For an early Mother’s Day treat, book your tickets with the McPherson Playhouse.
For Moms with active young kids, head to Greenglade Community Centre for a special Mother’s Day Kindergym from 9am. This event is specifically for children up to the age of 5. Dads, if you are reading this, why not take the kids out for the morning – after making mom breakfast in bed of course
Another one for active kids is Gordon Head Rec’ Centre’s Mother’s Day Swim. Moms get to swim for free from 10am until 12pm.
For those who are less active but who enjoy being outdoors, this Mother’s Day Concert will be a winner. Bring your lawn chairs and relax as you enjoy a free open air concert in Playfair Park from 2pm until 4pm.
If your mom has always dreamed of meeting a royal (HRH Prince Andrew will be in attendance this year), the Highland Games just might be her chance. And if not, then she likely has Scottish or Irish roots – lord knows, most of us do!
What might be of particular interest to the ladies is the kilted golf tournament that takes place on the 12th. Now you can’t tell me that isn’t a specific Mother’s Day event! Check out our Highland Games listing for full details on the event which goes on until the 19th May.
If your mom and family enjoy local produce and crafts, the Spring Prestige Craft Fair will make for an enjoyable day out. This is a fair devoted to locally handcrafted products and takes place on both the 11th and 12th May.
Of course the Royal BC Museum is open everyday, but I personally like to enjoy a trip on special occasions. On Mother’s Day, why not head downtown and take in the China Town exhibition and see what movies are on at the IMAX, it’s a fun day for all ages in the family.
