Looking for some great family vacations from Victoria? ChatterBlock’s got you covered.
I know we’re all thinking it, but let’s just say it: the west coast is the best coast. British Columbia has so much to offer. From beaches and surf at Tofino, to the awe inspiring views from the snow-capped mountain tops, to the vibrant cities, to the relaxing wineries in the Okanagan valleys. So why plan a big vacation when you can take advantage of this beautiful place we live and have a weekend getaway with the family? ChatterBlock has scoped out some great family-oriented destinations on the Island and some worth-while ones to hop over to the Mainland for.
The Beach Club Resort – Parksville
The Beach Club offers guests an incredible array of onsite amenities including The Stonewater Spa, Pacific Prime Steak & Chop Restaurant with its famous beachfront patio just off the Parksville Beach Boardwalk, an indoor ocean-side pool and hot tub, and the ever-popular Sand Seeker Kid’z Kamp.
Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort – Parksville
Set in 22 acres of arbutus and fir forest nestled beside the ocean; this kid-friendly location offers direct access to three kilometers of sandy Rathtrevor Beach and the warmest ocean swimming in Canada. Tigh-Na-Mara’s focus is to ensure that you have a unique and memorable stay. For kids, this resort offers family friendly accommodations, an outdoor playground, indoor pool, a full service spa and three restaurants.
Remote Passages Marine Excursions – Tofino
On a weekend getaway to Tofino, get out on the water to see some gray whales, humpback whales, sea otters, and sea lions- great fun for the kids and the whole family. Remote Passages Marine Excursion also offers Hot Spring Explorer day tours, sea kayaking, family paddles, and a harbor crossing for families over to Meares Island’s “Big Tree Trail”: a 1.5 km walk through ancient rain forest to a 1,600 year old cedar!
Tiger Lily Farms – Parksville
Tiger Lily Farm is a family operated working farm. It has been open to the public for 15 years and has been an integral part of the community. Let your kids get up close and personal with barnyard friends: ride a pony, milk the goats, feed the babies, collect eggs, pet the bunnies and count the chicks are just a few of the “farm chores” you will be able to do while you visit the Barnyard. You can also take a Horseback Trail ride or Riding Lessons.
Camp Homewood – Quadra Island
Camp Homewood covers 275 acres of natural beauty on the shores of Gowlland Harbour on Quadra Island. This picturesque and sheltered harbour is tucked in between the mainland and Vancouver Island. Camp Homewood offers a traditional camp experience with a twist: a large camp with a small camp feel. Harbour Camp, Woodsman Camp (our wilderness experience), Sailing Camp (on 4 27ft sailboats) and Ranch Camp make up the bulk of our summer. These are great camps for the whole family!
Feeling like it’s time to leave the Island? The Mainland has a ton of stuff to do with your kids, and makes for some great family vacations from Victoria. Vancouver is a city with charm, kids will be excited to visit attractions like the Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, ride bikes through Stanley Park, and lots more. But if a city-escape isn’t your idea of a vacation then the Mainland has some more places up its sleeve if you’re willing to take the drive.
Empire Landmark Hotel – Vancouver
The tallest downtown Vancouver hotel in the West End with the award-winning Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant in the heart of the city. Empire Landmark Hotel offers a great city experience and is located right on Robson if you’re looking for some of the best shopping Vancouver has to offer. Chateau Big White – Kelowna
A little further away, but definitely worth the drive to see these snow covered mountains in the Okanagan. The Chateau Big White is ideally situated in the heart of the resort with beautiful views of the village. The hotel also features an outdoor hot tub, the Black Diamond Bar & Grill, free underground parking, and Beyond Wrapture Day Spa.
