As the weather cools, and the leaves start changing colour it’s time to visit the pumpkin patch! Many local farms start to sell pumpkins as early as the beginning of October. So grab a sweater, maybe a pumpkin spice latte, and get pickin’.
Sure you could go to Save On Foods or SuperStore and pick a pumpkin out of the bin, OR you could give your kids a slightly more authentic pumpkin picking experience at one of the many local pumpkin patches that Winnipeg has to offer.
Here are a few of our favourites!
The Pumpkin Barn at the A Maze in Corn farm is a must stop for your family during the month of October. There are always hundreds of different shaped pumpkins to choose from. Not to mention, to complete your visit you get to enjoy a ride back to your vehicle on the pumpkin train. Cho cho cho.
Grab the family and pack the mini van up for the day. Schwabe Pumpkins is open and grows over 25 different types of pumpkins. The farm provides a great backdrop for cute fall photos of your kids. Fun fact: the farm caters to children under 12 years old, so if you have younger children this could be a great place to go this October.
The pumpkin patch at Meandher Creek offers a ton of fun stuff for your kids to enjoy. Free things to do include: a huge hay bale pyramid, giant sandbox, small hay bale maze, animals, corn, and many other play and photo opportunities.
The pumpkin patch at Deer Meadow Farms is always a hit with our family. From the Pumpkin Express that takes you out to the patch, to the ancient 100 year old weigh-in scale, corn maze, and the Forbidden Forest, Deer Meadow Farms is quite the destination. The pumpkin patch will at the start of October so make sure take a ride out to Springfield Road and get pickin’.
In addition to tons of pickable pumpkins early in the fall the Steinbach Corn Maze offers a ton of indoor and outdoor activities for families. Our favourites include 3 indoor mazes, mini golf, simulated milking cows, playhouse, corn maze, corn cannon, 5 Go-Karts, human fooseball, and an electronic hockey net … just to name a few.
