Normally August has us dreaming of the beach, a hike, or a visit to a splash park (or anything involved with the outdoors). But with the smoky skies and balmy weather, I hear the indoors and the A/C calling!
For many Victorians our homes don't have air conditioning since the unbearably hot days don't come around too often. But when they do... Having some place to go during the peak hours of sun, or even the muggy evenings, can be a life saver!
So if you're looking for some ways to escape your home, I've listed indoor facilities that are great for you and your kids.
- Langford Lanes Bowling Alley has a great promotion- Kids Bowl Free! Children under 15 can play two free games for only the $3 shoe rental fee.
- Challenge your mind at Victoria Escape Games. Their spacious, air-conditioned rooms present a web of puzzles you have to solve in order to get out!
- Take your kids to Bumble Hive Play Centre & Cafe in Victoria Public Indoor Market, then peruse the market while you're there (there's great food too).
- Visit your local library and pick out some new books to read, or check their schedule for fun story times or other activities.
- The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea is Greater Victoria's only aquarium. It's a fun hands-on way to learn more about the creatures in our oceans.
- Play the day away at PlayZone in Langford.
- The Board Game Cafe is $5 and you can stay and play as many board games as you'd like! They have over 800 to choose from, and serve delicious milkshakes.
- Stroll around Mayfair Mall. To make it fun for the kids, have a pit stop at Sweet Factory and maybe even let them ride the motorized stuffed animals.
- Play some laser tag at LaserCity Fun Centre.
- Check out the Flying Squirrel indoor trampoline park.
- Channel their inner Picasso at a drop in art class. Fired Up! Paint Your Own Ceramics allows you to pop by anytime and choose from over 150 different pre-formed ceramics for you to paint.
- Watch an IMAX at the Royal BC Museum.
- Swim in the wave pool and go down the giant water slide at Commonwealth Pool.
- Still get your mini golf fix, but indoors, at Glow Mini Golf.
- Reach new heights at the Boulders Climbing Gym and let your little ones use up all that energy.
- Visit the Bug Zoo and check out all the creepy-crawlies!
- Check out I Want To Be in View Royal, a fairly new indoor playground and sensory centre great for younger kids.
