Summer is here and you’re dreaming of those lazy days, filled with sunshine, trips to the beach, relaxing by the pool and adventures at the park…

But about a week or two into summer vacation, reality
starts to set in. The temperatures spike and going anywhere without air
conditioning is next to impossible. And what parent can relax by the pool when
there are kids involved?
Your dreams of a relaxing summer can go by the wayside, but
they don’t have to! Plan ahead and have some great, engaging activities that
will keep the kiddos entertained and allow you to bond with them. Here are some
fun ideas that will make this summer this best one yet!
What kid doesn’t love jumping in puddles and getting all
messy? Normally, life is so hectic that when your kids see an enticing puddle,
you do anything you can to deter them from it. However, when there’s no place
to go, why not create some puddles and invite your kids to jump in and get
Use a garden hose to create puddles in your driveway or
lawn, or take a walk on a rainy day and go searching for some puddles.
Encourage your kids to splash, kick, jump in those glorious shallow pools of
water! You can even join in on the fun and run through the puddles, too! Not
only is this a fun way to pass the time, but it’s a great way to stay cool, and
you and your kids will make memories to last a lifetime.
Kids and candy go together like peanut butter and jelly.
While you might not be keen on letting your kids have candy all the time, you
can certainly bend the rules – especially during the summer.
Invite your kids into the kitchen and make some fun candy recipes together! From chocolate-dipped
cookies to candy sushi, there are so many (and tasty) sweet treats that you and
your little ones can make together. Everyone will have fun playing chef and
creating mouthwatering goodies together.
When the mercury spikes, a water battle is the perfect way
to keep cool and have fun at the same time.
Fill up buckets with water balloons and have a water balloon
fight. Hand out water pistols, set up obstacles to hide behind in the yard
(tables, chairs, etc) and have a water pistol fight. Turn on the sprinklers and
water more than just your grass! Have a water relay race. Roll toy cars through the mud and
let the kids have their own car wash. The opportunities for water play are
limitless! With a little creativity, just add water and you and your children
will have a blast (and stay cool!)
Head to the beach and have a scavenger hunt. Draw up a list
of items that you want your kids to find; seashells, different colored and
shapes rocks, beach glass, etc. Hand out the list and some buckets and let your
kiddos try to find everything on the list.
Of course, while they’re hunting, don’t forget to let them
take a dip in the water to cool off. Once they find all of their treasures take
them home and make a collage out of them to preserve the memories
Don’t let the summer doldrums get you and your children
down; with activities like these, you’ll have a blast all season long.
