Cardboard for Kids: Google Cardboard Explained for Parents

Published Nov 14, 2016 | Updated Feb 19, 2020

Clever name and even cooler device. The new Google Cardboard is a kid-friendly, fun, and affordable way of bringing virtual reality to your home. Kids and parents alike will love the immersive and educational experience.

*This is not a paid advertisement for Google Cardboard. We just want to inform parents on the coolest new devices that their children may enjoy.

Who would have thought CARDBOARD could be this much fun!?

If you, or your kids want to join in on the virtual reality craze, without dishing out hundreds of dollars, Google Cardboard may be the product for you. The device, made popular through its use in classrooms allows students to go experience virtual reality and go on field trips through the "expedition project".

If standing on the surface of mars, swimming through the Great Barrier Reef, or riding a roller coaster from the luxury of your home sounds like a fun afternoon activity, than Google Cardboard is for you.

Unlike popular VR prototypes, such as Google Glass, or Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard is a product literally anyone can afford. In fact, if you don't want to buy the device, Google has provided instructions on how to construct the product yourself. However, we personally recommend spending + / - $15 to buy a Google Cardboard certified viewer.

To sweeten the deal, the Cardboard App is actually FREE to install. So, if you already have access to a smart phone and are willing buy a piece of cardboard ... you soon will be able to experience the wonders of virtual reality.

How awesome is that!?
