11 Smart and Healthy Eats for Your Child's Birthday Party

Published Aug 9, 2016 | Updated Feb 19, 2020

With the growing obesity pandemic ravaging society, we as parents owe it to our children to play our part in weaning them off sugar, and in some cases not to introduce them to it in the first place. One good way to begin this is to rather offer them healthy snacks at their birthday parties.

Children often do not know what is and what is not good for them. Anything that tastes good and sweet is often the only thing they want. They are kids, they do not need to know everything about being healthy and eating right. But we as adults know better don't we? We know that very sweet things are not good for one’s health. To kids when you say birthday party the one thing that automatically pops into their head are all the treats (read: sweet things) that they are going to consume on that day, as well as all the birthday presents they are going to receive, and they cannot wait for that day to come. Now it is all up to you as the parent to balance their diet without spoiling their fun day.

Below is a list of 11 healthy alternatives to sugar filled treats that do nothing but give your kids a sugar rush, and gets them on a downward spiral addiction to sugar that they may live with all their lives. A situation that we observe today in the amount of overweight children all over the world.2

Well we have come to the bottom of our list, and the bottom line remains that when it comes to the health of the children we should not take chances. Yes kids are picky and difficult to convince when it comes to eating healthy foods, but we can always come up with a plan to hide those veggies or most wanted nutrients somewhere in those sweet ones they love so much, save them.

Of course when you ensure that the birthday celebrant is showered with several amazing birthday gifts, then pretty much any food treats you serve at the party will be received with gratitude, for they are already hyped up and excited by the gifts they have received. Which is why it is sometimes a good idea to hint at what birthday gift ideas you might want your guests to bring along as a present for your child.
