In lieu of Canada Day the crew at ChatterBlock thought we would take the opportunity to provides some fun, family-friendly facts that hopefully the lil’ kids will enjoy, So move aside Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, and Ryan Gosling, here are some cute and quirky facts that define us as a nation.
Canada’s capital city Ottawa is the second coldest capital in the world!
The Canadian mottos is, “A Mari Usque Ad Mare”. It means “From Sea to Sea”.
Montreal is actually the second largest French speaking city in the world. (Paris is #1)
Some fun Canadian inventions, in no particular order, include the telephone, snowmobile, the game Trivial Pursuit, and (debatably) basketball!
50% of the world’s polar bear population lives in the territory Nunavut.
Canada is the second largest country in the world! (Russia is the only country with a larger area)
Foods considered Canadian include poutine, back bacon, maple syrup, and of obviously Timbits.
The name Canada comes from the words “Kanata”, which to the Iroquois means village. Rumour has is it that Jacques Cartier and the Iroquois had a communication misunderstanding that led to the naming of our entire nation.
Don’t quote us on this but apparently Canada consumes more Mac and Cheese than any other nation in the world! We prefer to call it KD.
