San Francisco is truly one of the best places to live in California during the summer. With so much to do, and the sun almost always shining, the city is perfect place to spend the dog days of summer with your kids.

Below are some of the top spots in San Fran that our local experts at ChatterBlock recommend  taking the kids. We promise you won’t be disappointed!

  1. Without a doubt GOLDEN GATE PARK is a must for all families to experience. Equipped with numerous playgrounds, lakes, rose gardens, and even a newly restored carousel, families will have no problem spending the entire day here. If you are looking to discover this outdoor oasis in full effect visit on Sundays or holidays to experience the park car free!

  2. MISSION PLAYGROUND is also an awesome option for parents with young children to go on a hot day. Bring the whole family out to go for a dip in the city’s only outdoor pool. There is also a playground and grassy area nearby to keep your little balls of energy entertained.

  3. If you are already in the area LANDS END is a great place to take your kids for a family picnic, or to watch the sunset. We think the view of the ocean and the city for Lands End is absolutely gorgeous. There are also numerous hiking trails, ranging in difficulty, that yours kids may also enjoy.

  4. Another awesome spot to hit up in San Fran is CRISSY FIELD BEACH. Pick a day when the tide is out and the sun is shining to visit this sensational kids paradise. Kids and toddlers alike will love to playing in the shallow water and sandy beach!

  5. One free outdoor activity that is often overlooked is visiting AT&T PARK when there is actually no game being played. On these off days your kids go can in the back and play on the super cool coke slide, or run around the empty seats. If you have any baseball fans this a must-do summer activity.

  6. MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK is another beautiful park with a stunning beach to boot! If your kids love animals we suggest taking them down here to feed the birds. In our personal opinion this is one of the best places in the city to get rid of your breadcrumbs.

  7. One obvious suggestion is to bring the family out to PIER 39. There is no better place in the world, yet alone the city, to see sea lions hoot and holler.

  8. There is something magical about visiting a local tide pool. Luckily, San Fran and the surrounding area is packed full of places to explore all sorts of aquatic life. One place that we recommend is JAMES FITZGERALD MARINE RESERVE. Here you will find a 3 mile stretch of beach, tidal pools and marshes. Kids will love the fact that they can get hands on with nature. Just remember that no dogs are allowed!

  9. If soccer or other conventional sports are not your kids things why not take them to the local skatepark. One of the best in the city is SOMA WEST SKATE PARK. Here kids will be able to skate at a beautifully designed park that was backed by Tony Hawk himself! Better yet, there is ample room on the sidelines for parents to sit back and watch.

  10. Last but not least, why not try exploring the secret Redwood Groves? The ECOLOGY TRAIL AT THE PRESIDIO is a 1.4 mile route that winds it way through giant redwoods and inspirational views. If you reach the “Inspiration Point Overlook” you and your family will get a panoramic look at both the Bay and Alcatraz! On a hot day hit the trail for some shade and to connect with nature.

Overall, these are just 10 of the 100’s of awesome places we would recommend taking your kids this summer. If your go-to place did not make the list please, please, please post it in the comment section below. We love adventure and would be keen on visiting somewhere new.
