Here’s a look at a really wonderful company based in San Francisco!

Dragonfly Designs, strives to improve the human and socio economic condition by promoting educational opportunity and self-sufficiency to women and children in need. I caught up with owner, Stacee Gillelen to find out how…

Question 1: Hi Stacee, please tell us a bit about Dragonfly Designs Jewelry with a Conscience!

I launched Dragonfly Designs in 2005 with the intent of creating a company that serves the needs of the community. We are proud of our dedication to women & children both locally and abroad and operate under the following mission and vision statements:

At Dragonfly Designs it is our mission to offer exceptional handmade jewelry and the opportunity to create it, while promoting social justice, personal style and fun.

Dragonfly Designs’ programs seek to foster a sense of individuality and encourage children to think “outside-the-box.” We work to provide a sense of accomplishment, consciousness, and individuality that empowers children to effect positive change within themselves and their communities through art-based education.

Question 2: What types of activities/programs do you offer for kids and families?

We offer Jewelry Making Classes, Birthday Parties, Private Events, Day Camps, & Summer Camps! I’ll share a few highlights… in our classes, students learn jewelry making techniques including resin, stamping, beading, crimping, enamel, felting, copper etching and so much more in our South San Francisco studio location or your local school, park and/or community center! We host Parties for both kids and adults – a perfect way to celebrate with friends! And we’re really excited about our Jewelery Design Camps for children ages 5 and up this spring and summer! Kids and teens will learn simple steps to beautiful jewelry in a fun encouraging environment. Yoga & Eco-hikes also included!

Question 3: Could I host my child’s Birthday Party at Dragonfly Designs?

Yes you certainly can! Our Jewelry Making Birthday Parties add new flavor to the cake and ice cream scene, best of all we deliver the party to you! Our Mobile San Francisco Bay Area Birthday Parties are available in the following counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin, Alameda (Berkeley, Oakland + Orinda), & Santa Clara. For clients living outside of our service area a Travel Fee will apply.

Question 4: What type of Jewelry can one make at Dragonfly Designs?

So glad you asked! We teach wire work, resin, stamping & dapping, beading, crimping, enamel, felting, copper etching, polyclay, and much more.  We teach all of these techniques to children in our camps & classes as well as to adults.

Question 5: What’s your favorite part of helping kids be creative?

Watching children’s eyes light up and seeing them feel so proud of their accomplishments is my favorite part of being a jewelry teacher – jewelry making boosts self esteem, teaches a new skill set, builds independence, fosters joy, allows children to exercise their creativity and increases sustained focus.  You won’t believe the pieces that your child can create.

Question 6: That sounds lovely Stacee! And what makes your Summer Camps unique?

Our camps offer a combination of movement in the form of yoga or dance, as well as exposure to local ecology through a weekly hike in surrounding open spaces or a trip to an Organic Urban Farm in San Francisco – with the creativity that Jewelry Design bring to children.  We also offer special classes for tweens and teens that teach children to design & sell their own Jewelry Line. Our Camps are also offered in Mandarin Chinese for those students who want to increase their vocabulary through an art based curriculum.

Thanks for sharing Stacee!
