Now that spring has finally sprung and the weather is heating up it is time to start thinking about summer. We absolutely love the idea of sending your kids to an outdoor summer camp. Why not let them soak up some sweet Vitamin D and have a blast with their best friends! In order to help, we’ve filtered through all the local outdoor kids camps and compiled a list of only the best and brightest.

Camp Huwani

Located in the Piney Woods of East Texas, Camp Huawni has been family-owned and operated since 1965. Camp leaders believe that every child needs to experience at least these two things: 1) that simple fun is the most fun and 2) that life is meaningful relationships. The 3:1 camper-to-counselor ratio, fosters deep relationships all while having some good old fashioned summer camp fun.

River Legacy Living Science Center

Week-long summer programs in June and July provide students with an exciting hands-on, minds-on opportunity to explore the natural world. Age-appropriate curricula are taught to campers from preschool children through 8th grade. All classes feature investigations both inside the Living Science Center and outdoors in the rich resources of River Legacy Parks.

Kidventure Camp

Since 1994 Kidventure has provided summer camp in Austin for thousands of children. Half day, full day, and overnight sessions are available.

Their curriculum is aimed at serving the whole child, including science, athletics, art, team building, and more.

YMCA Dallas

The Y's Outdoor Education programs are devoted to helping teachers educate students about the interrelationship and interdependence between man and the environment. The natural world becomes their classroom, and students have the opportunity to learn while exploring trails, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and orienteering. Summer programs are offered at Camp Grady Spruce and at the Collin County Adventure Camp.

Dallas Zoo

Week-long and single-day camps are available at the zoo for animal lovers from Pre-K to Grade 12.

Several themes, from athletics to academic and career exploration camp are available, to suit different age groups and interests.
