The 4th of July is almost upon us. Are you ready to celebrate the birth of our great nation with your kids this year? To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of all of the best July 4th fireworks in San Jose and the South Bay area, as well as other great celebrations and activities that you can enjoy with your family this Independence Day!

There’s plenty of great family events happening this year throughout the South Bay and the San Francisco Peninsula.

Fireworks, Festivities, and Parades


77th Annual 4th of July Parade - A Family 4th

The 77th annual 4th of July Parade by the Peninsula Celebration Association is the premier holiday parade in the region and takes place in the heart of Downtown Redwood City. This treasured event brings thousands of excited spectators to enjoy an incredible array of parade floats and numerous family festivities.

After the parade and festival, spectators can enjoy a spectacular 4th of July fireworks show launched from the Port of Redwood City.

Menlo Park 4th of July Parade and Celebration

This is the annual parade and celebration you have heard so much about. Decorate you bike, tricycle, or wagon and parade with us down Santa Cruz Avenue from the parking lot on Chestnut Street at Santa Cruz Avenue (behind Wells Fargo bank) to Burgess Park.

The Parade starts promptly at 11:45 am. Once at Burgess Park, you and your family will enjoy music, games, and food.

Old Fashioned Fourth of July - San Mateo

The San Mateo County History Museum will present an Old Fashioned Fourth of July within its building, the 105-year-old county courthouse in Redwood City. Children will be invited to hand-crank homemade vanilla ice cream and then take a taste. They will also make traditional Independence Day crafts to take home with them.

4th of July Fireworks Spectacular with the San Francisco Symphony

The SF Symphony’s annual Fourth of July concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre celebrates American film music, with a special tribute to The Sound of Music in honor of the movie’s 50th anniversary. Director of Summer Concerts Edwin Outwater conducts the Orchestra in an evening that finishes with a spectacular fireworks show.

Location: Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View


Parade and Glorious 4th of July Park Festival - Los Altos

Turn out in red, white, and blue for the annual Los Altos Hills Fourth of July Parade, followed by the  “Glorious 4th of July” festival  at Shoup Park for some more family fun.

Come big, come small, come one and all. Bring your scooters and bikes, your po-gos, and trikes, carry streamers and flags, decorate Moms and Dads, be Uncle Sam or just a big ham in your stars and your stripes, and your red, white and blue.

Los Gatos Celebrates the 4th of July

This hometown event offers fun for the whole family, all day long! Come early to play game and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch being sold by members of Los Gatos Service Clubs in the Food Court. Stay awhile and soak in the sun while listening to the patriotic sounds of the San Jose Wind Symphony. The day promises to be full of patriotic summertime fun for all.

Rotary Fireworks

Celebrating our 101st year and a new century of service, the Rotary Club of San Jose invites you, your family and your friends to Discovery Meadow in downtown San Jose to celebrate our nation's independence!

Date: July 4
Time: 9:30 a.m.–11pm.
Location: Discovery Meadows


33rd Palo Alto Summer Festival and Chili Cook-off

The tradition continues as we celebrate Independence Day at the 34th Annual City of Palo Alto Summer Festival & Chili Cook-Off.  Features include live music featuring Rockin' Down the Higway (Music from the Doobie Brothers); a variety of children’s activities; art activities by the Palo Alto Art Center, and more.

The judges will award over $2,000 in cash and prizes to the chili division and Best Overall Chili Winners!

Location: Mitchell Park, Palo Alto
