It's the most wonderful time of the year! Make sure you check our calendar of Christmas events happening in Calgary, we've made sure to grab all the best for 2018.

Tis the season to be merry! 2018 brings a new year of our favourite holiday events, as well as some fresh new ones we think you'll all enjoy.

Christmas at Black Creek

Visit the Black Creek Village in it's finest holiday attire and celebrate Christmas with old and new traditions! There are number of events being organized at the village this year.

Family Christmas Weekends: Starting November 17th step into a Christmas wonderland as your senses come alive with the sights and sounds of a Victorian Christmas. With special Christmas activities in the village, your family will discover old traditions and perhaps start some new ones of your own!

Storytime With Santa (Weekends in December): Spend a fun-filled festive time with Santa and his helpers, gather around Santa’s chair and hear a classic Christmas tale read by the jolly man himself! Decorate your own Christmas cookie while warming up with hot apple cider in the cozy historic kitchen and create your very own Christmas craft & venture out into the Village  for a day of traditional Christmas activities. Don’t forget your camera!

Christmas By Lamplight (Saturdays in December): Bathed in the glow of lamplight and dressed in its holiday finery, Black Creek comes alive at night with music, food and activities.

Ranked as one of the leading Christmas Markets in the world by Fodor's Travel, USA Today, and Mashable among many others, this annual event captures all of the tradition, heritage and charm of a European Christmas Market, while showcasing hundreds of unique and local handcrafted products. Kick off the holiday season with Holiday Magic, the spectacular annual community concert event in support of the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR). Families, friends and music lovers are invited to this FREE EVENT for the official “Flick the Switch” lighting ceremony and an exciting live musical performance by Canadian star Keshia Chante! Read more...

Where: Village of Yorkville Park (Cumberland & Bellair St)

Join in for a magical evening of music, dance and spectacle and experience the wonder and joy of the season in the heart of Downtown Toronto. Illuminite kicks off with live music from the Devin Cuddy Band, sure to get you dancing and culminates with a stunning tree lighting performance produced by TDC Entertainment. After the tree lighting join with thousands of others on the square in singing some holiday favourites led by Toronto crooner Ori Dagan. Read more...

Where: Yonge-Dundas Square

Join all the excited kids and kids-at-heart to welcome the Big Guy to town! The Santa Claus Parade has been a highlight on the calendars of tiny Toronto revellers since 1913! Fantastic floats leave the corner of Christie and Bloor Street in the company of marching bands, dancers, prancers and costumed characters all cheered on by hundreds of excited Santa fans along the 5-kilometre route. Read more...

Where: Starts at Christie Pits Park and travels along Bloor, right on University Ave, left on Wellington and ends at the St. Lawrence Market

Swedish Christmas Fair

Get into the spirit at this free two-day holiday extravaganza! Warm up to the sounds of children singing carols at the Lucia Pageant, discover the story behind IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad and participate in folk dancing, craft making and more. It’s the perfect place to sample delicious Scandinavian food and have a drink of glögg. Check off your gift list with imported handmade crafts, unique Christmas décor, textiles and tasty Swedish delicacies. Read more...

Cavalcade of Lights Toronto

This free event is a 50-year-old holiday tradition in Toronto!  Each year the official start to the holiday season in Toronto is marked by the annual Cavalcade of Lights celebration presented by Great Gulf. The event features the illumination of Toronto’s official Christmas tree, performances by top Canadian talent, a brilliant fireworks presentation and a DJ skating party at the iconic outdoor rink. Read more...

Beaches Santa Claus Parade

Head to the Beaches to welcome Santa Claus! Don’t forget your letters to Santa and a Toonie to support CC55’s Share a Christmas Program. Children’s crafts, Photos with Santa and a BBQ immediately following the parade at CC55. Read more...

Weston Village Santa Claus Parade

Another parade, you say? This is the 40th anniversary of the Weston Village parade and with an attendance of over 10,000 people each year, the parade is busier than ever. There's more than 50 entries including bands, community floats, clowns, and of course … our favourite chap with the white beard and the red suit! Read more...

Where: Starts at Weston & Church St, south on Weston Rd ending at Sidney Belsey Cres

DeClute Light Up the Beach

DeClute Real Estate dedicates an enormous amount of resources every year, stringing Christmas lights above the boardwalk through mature oak, maple and willow trees lining the shores of Lake Ontario. More than 80,000 individual LED bulbs on 20,000 linear feet of wire are hung. every. The result has attracted attention from people around the world who come to marvel the sight.The lighting event brings thousands to watch as Santa strolls the Boardwalk and counts down to light each tree in sequence.

When: Friday November 30th, 2018 at 7pm
Where: The Boardwalk from the Leuty Lighthouse to The Balmy Beach Club

The Nutcracker

Created in 1995 by the National Ballet’s former Artistic Director James Kudelka, this stunningly designed and richly choreographed version of the perennial Christmas classic is a holiday gem, traditional and touchingly affectionate, yet imbued with the vigour, wit and briskness of a contemporary sensibility. The dreams and imaginative powers of childhood, the lure of fantasy and the sheer appeal of spectacle all form part of Kudelka’s vision, which comprises virtuosic dance, inspired comedy and the unbridled visual extravagance that one has come to expect from The Nutcracker.
