Christmas is approaching, and like Santa, there is a lot for us to do! Here's your ultimate guide to the best events of the Christmas season for 2018.

The weather is getting rather frosty but with that comes the most wonderful time of year!

Spend time with the family, celebrate, and enjoy all sorts of community traditions and festivities. We have a complete calendar of Christmas events on ChatterBlock but here we'll cover our favourites.


Help Santa Toy Parade

When: Saturday November 17th, 2018 at 11am
Where: Garden of the Province & Territories to Confederation Park

Every year since 1969, the Ottawa Professional Fire Fighters' Association has been organizing the Help Santa Toy Parade and collecting toys along the parade route for distribution to the less fortunate children in Ottawa-Carleton. The parade has evolved into a significant event drawing tens-of-thousands of people who line the Parade route and share their generosity.Participants are entertained to the sights and sounds of floats, bands and clowns produced locally and from around the Province. Tudor Hall Christmas Craft & Gift Show

When: Sunday November 18th, 2018 from 10am - 3:30pm
Where: Tudor Hall

Drop by and enjoy the wonderful Christmas celebration of over 60 vendors offering quality handmade items and gifts. Help support our local vendors and help reduce the carbon footprint by buying locally handmade products. FREE Admission and FREE parking! Read more... 


Barrhaven Santa Claus Parade 

When: Sunday November 18th, 2018 at 5:30pm
Where: Stanherd Drive

The parade runs down Strandherd Drive, starting at Beatrice Drive and ending at the park n ride, where it turns north for dispersal. You'll find a variety of local food vendors along the parade route. Please remember to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations for the needy.

Nutcracker - by Royal Winnipeg Ballet

When: Showtimes November 28th - December 1st at 7pm, December 1st & 2nd at 1:30pm
Where: National Arts Centre

The perfect holiday treat for the whole family! RWB’s Nutcracker–set in 1913 Winnipeg – updates the best of the original ballet with uniquely Canadian elements, such as a snowy hockey game, Mounties, and a model of Parliament Hill! Nutcracker is young Clara’s Christmas fantasy, featuring Filbert the Bear, dancing mice, a Sugar Plum Fairy, a magically growing Christmas tree, and new this year 13 adorable polar bears--a traditional holiday favourite. Get Tickets


Alight at Night Festival

When: Open on select nights from November 30th to January 5th - See times
Where: Upper Canada Village

It may be a bit of a drive, but it's worth it for Eastern Ontario's BIGGEST outdoor light festival. Bundle up and take an evening stroll through the picture-perfect setting with one million lights covering the heritage buildings of Upper Canada Village (a true winter wonderland).  


Christmas Farmers' Market

When: Weekends of December 1 & 2, 8 & 9, 15 & 16, 22 & 23 from 9am - 3pm
Where: Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne Park

This event will feature work by painters, glass workers, jewellers, clothing designers, sculptors, photographers and more wonderful items from over 120 vendors. It's a great opportunity to pick up some very special treasures – for yourself or your loved ones. And it's more than just shopping! Throughout the day is horse and wagon rides, kids crafts, and live music.

Christmas Lights Across Canada

When: Wednesday December 5th is the Illumination Ceremony at 7pm! Lights continue until January 7th.
Where: Parliament Hill

Kick off the holiday season on Parliament Hill when Canada’s capital lights up! Free family fun with carols, hot chocolate and more! In Canada’s Capital Region, the winter landscape glows with hundreds of thousands of multicoloured lights during the holiday season. Read more...

A Charlie Brown Christmas with the Jerry Granelli Trio

When: Thursday December 6th at 7pm
Where: Dominion-Chalmers United Church

As one third of the legendary San Francisco-based Vince Guaraldi Trio, Jerry Granelli recorded what is arguably the greatest Christmas album of all time in 1965 – the soundtrack to the animated classic A Charlie Brown Christmas. Today Granelli is the only remaining member of the famed trio and this Christmas season he’s on the road to share the story of the band that recorded the famous soundtrack. This performance promises to be an unforgettable experience for Peanuts and jazz music aficionados alike. Granelli and his band will be joined on stage with a local choir, The Goulbourn Junior Jubilees. Get Tickets


Holidays at the Parks

When: Sunday December 9th from 12pm - 4pm
Where: Wesley Clover Parks

A great family-friendly event inside the heated indoor arena with horse-drawn wagon rides, vendors, and photos with Santa in his grotto! Entry is by donation with free parking on site. Read more...
