Canada Day, one of our best statutory holidays, and hopefully with great weather, a time to kick off summer more formally in Victoria BC.
Little fun history … I’m a history buff … so Canada Day celebrates the Brit’s signing the British North American Act on July 1st in 1867, which united the three main colonies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Province of Canada, into a unified dominion under the Crown called the Dominion of Canada.
Just fun little trivia, but I digress, and really want to say that Canada Day is our Nation’s official birthday, and just a great day to do fun family things, get dressed in red and paint the flag on your face, show some enthusiasm for this great country of ours, watch fireworks, and celebrate.
If you’re considering some fun ideas and events for Canada Day, here are some great things worth considering:
Royal Gorge Canada Day Picnic
Celebrate Canada Day along the Gorge Waterway with a pancake breakfast, family parade, stage entertainment, classic cars, kids’ activities, canoe rides, buskers corner, street hockey, Strawberry Tea, Canada Day market, & more. Kids’ Activities begin at 10 am
Canada Day Celebration 2012
Victoria’s annual celebration of our beloved nation, featuring our ‘Eh’ Rated firework display which gets better every year. The Canada Day Celebration is proudly presented by the City of Victoria and its event partners.
Starting at 11 am each day is the Multicultural Food Village at Ship Point, along with all day live entertainment.
On July 1st at 11 am the Legislature Lawns will be holding Kids Zone activities.
As always, there will be Fireworks at the Inner Harbour starting at 10:20 pm.
Fort Rodd Hill Canada Day Celebration
Canada Day’s biggest birthday cake is always served at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites. Come celebrate Canada’s special day and join the excitement. Just clap your hands, or dance yourself silly to the live music throughout the day. Be a kid again, jump in and take part in all the fun activities. Enjoy the food and snacks at the concession, but remember to leave a bit of room for a piece of the HUGE cake.
