Things to Do in San Francisco Without the kids in tow
I know we’re a site that lists things to do in San Francisco with your kids, but we also understand just how important it is to have some kid free time. Yep, that’s right, kid free time, remember that? We’re pretty out there!
So here’s a list of some of the great things to do in San Francisco and surrounding area for a fun adult only evening. You probably already have a hot new restaurant you want to try, so we’ve come up with some fun and games that are a little more adventurous!
Night Time Hiking
If you know the San Francisco Bay area well, that’s a great place to explore the hundreds of trails. Over the summer, quite a few walking groups offer guided night time hikes, or if threes a crowd, pack a picnic and adventure alone, just remember the flashlight.
My recommendation is the Full Moon Hike at the John Muir National Historic Site’s Mt. Wanda, it’s free, but you must call to reserve your spot.
Dining in The Dark – Engage Your Senses
So I did say no dining recommendations, but this is a little different. You may have heard about Opaque,on 689 McAllister St (between Franklin St & Gough St) but if not, I’ll explain: basically, you dine in a pitch black room. The idea is that your sense of smell and taste are heightened and the culinary experience becomes even more intense.
The specially trained servers are blind and will guide you through this new experience. My advice: do not wear white!
When the Little Kids are Away The Big Kids Will Play – Mirror Maze, Pier 39
There is a tonne of fun at Pier 39 and likelihood is it’s one of your top ten things to do in San Francisco with the whole family. But taking it in on a date night is so much more relaxing and still really fun. The Carousel is lovely, but head in to the Mirror Maze for much hilarity! And you can kiss each other’s boo boos when you head-butt a wall – how romantic!
Get Your Geek On – After Hours at The Tech Museum
I am not a geek, far from it, but this event at the Tech Museum really intrigues me! Music, games, glow in the dark tech-tinis! This really does look like a fun, exciting and different night out!
Remember, date night doesn’t have to be dinner and movie, try something new! There are just so many great things to do in San Francisco whilst the kids stay home and gorge on chocolate with the babysitter, that even if it’s just a few times a year, it really is worth it to get out and spend quality time together – Enjoy!
