SF Peninsula Events

Filoli Holiday Traditions Event

A Bay Area favorite, Filoli’s spectacular nine-day Holiday Traditions Event. With this year’s theme, “Let There Be Magic”, rooms throughout the first floor of the historic House and Visitors Center are transformed into a unique, magical showcase and holiday atmosphere that delights and inspires each guest. Numerous local choral and performing groups and Bay Area musicians’ music will add to the ambiance throughout this one-of-a-kind event.  Nov 23-Dec 1 at Filoli (Woodside)

Hometown Holidays

Downtown Redwood city would like to invite you to join them for their Annual Childrens Festival. This free to the public event begins at 10 AM and ends with a big bang — a spectacular Fireworks Show. This year, the CalTrain Holiday Train is returning and will make a stop in Sequoia Station right after the fireworks show. Some of the highlights: Snow lot; Free Photos with Santa; Vendors to start your holiday shopping; Children’s Parade. Dec 1, Downtown Redwood City

Annual LEGO Holiday Extravaganza

Did someone say LEGO..Im there! The Museum of American Heritage,  The Bay Area LEGO® User Group and the Bay Area LEGO Train Club are co-hosting the 2012/13 LEGO Holiday display. Enjoy a variety of LEGO creations made by members of the club, featuring train layouts, Bay Area landmarks, miniatures cities, farms, castles, a zoo and more. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Hilarious and heartwarming, Mark Twain’s classic Huckleberry Finn sweeps down the mighty Mississippi, where runaways Huck and Jim discover a friendship that defies convention and defines the American dream. 27th Annual Holiday Faire

The event, with activities for children and adults, is based on centuries-old traditions and is steeped in beauty and reverence for the winter season. A variety of hands-on activities are available to faire goers. The Gnome Adventure is an especially beloved activity, where children crawl through a passage lined with wintry vignettes that show gnomes hard at work doing seasonal chores. There are also old-fashioned games of skill. Dec 1 at Waldorf School of the Peninsula (Los Altos).

Nutcracker Sweets Candy Land Party

Created for children of all ages, choreographer Mark Foehringer and ensemble cast give a contemporary twist to the classic holiday ballet, danced to live music. This special 50-minute version of the Nutcracker ballet is especially designed for children Direction, choreography, and concept by Mark Foehringer.Live music with musical direction by Michael Morgan. Weekends, Dec 1 – 23 at Fort Mason Center

The Snowman

If you have kids—or if the holidays make you feel like a kid yourself—don’t miss The Snowman accompanied by the San Francisco Symphony. This charming animated film tells the story of a young boy’s magical friendship with a snowman. Create lasting memories at this holiday event, which also features kid-friendly seasonal tunes and sing-alongs with the Orchestra!Dec 22 at Davies Symphony Hall

The Great Dickens Christmas Fair & Victorian Holiday Party

A Bay Area tradition since 1970, the Great Dickens Christmas Fair is a holiday adventure into Victorian London, partying with hundreds of costumed players in over 120,000 square feet of theatrically-lit music halls, pubs, dance parties and Christmas shops. Your senses will be filled with enticing aromas of roasted chestnuts and hearty foods. Children will enjoy the Punch and Judy puppet shows, Victorian fairies, Father Christmas, and interactive theatrical performances.  Nov 23-Dec 23 at Cow Palace

Deck The Hall

This holiday classic is a Symphony family tradition. Treat your children to this festive concert featuring the magical music of the season performed by members of the San Francisco Symphony and special guests. The whole family will enjoy a post-concert party with entertainment, arts and crafts activities, and refreshments. Dec 2 at Davies Symphony Hall


Nutcracker of San Francisco Ballet

San Francisco Ballet’s sparkling production of Nutcracker, set here in our own “City by the Bay,” has introduced audiences of all ages to the magnificent world of ballet. This holiday season, experience the beauty and athleticism of SF Ballet’s international cast of world-class dancers in Nutcracker, a San Francisco tradition since 1944.  Dec 7 – 28 at War Memorial Opera House



South Bay Events

Tree Lighting

Cookies. Santa. Singing. Snow. Kick off the holiday season with this annual Cupertino tradition. Dress warmly, as part of the event is outdoors. Event will be held rain or shine! Please bring a new toy or non-perishable food item to the event. All items will be donated to West Valley Community Services this holiday season.  Nov 30 at the Quinlan Community Center


Hanukah Palooza

The public is invited to the JCC’s annual Hanukah festival. Admission is free, and they’ll have games, arts & crafts and bounce houses for kids, holiday vendors for your Hanukah shopping needs, food for sale, and more. Dec 2 at Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center



56th Annual Children’s Christmas/Holidays Parade

Sponsored by the Los Gatos Lions Club & LGS Recreation, the Los Gatos Annual Children’s Parade is sure to be a hit once again! Santa will once again make a special appearance in this Los Gatos tradition. The parade route can be viewed here .  Dec 1 in Downtown Los Gatos




Carol Of Lights

Special activities for kids will include snow play, bounce houses, pony rides and a chance to visit Santa Claus. Adults will enjoy the music, caroling and glee on the faces of the children. This free event is provided by the Carol of Lights Committee and is designed for all the children of the community.  Dec 1 at Downtown Campbell



An Evening with Santa

Santa Claus is making a special trip to spend the evening with us. For one night only, come enjoy the holiday festivities. Participants can make festive crafts, listen to holiday stories told by the Santa Clara Library, sing holiday songs, enjoy yummy refreshments and take a picture with Santa. Activities are geared toward ages 3-7. Don’t miss out on this special holiday event! Dec 20 at Community Rec Center (Santa Clara)
